On another whim, I tore a few pages out of a completely worn out copy of The Return of the Native. Thomas Hardy is one of my favorites, but the block was complete detached from the wraps on this vintage paperback. The pages were delightfully yellowed and even brittle.
I used a mix of Mod Podge and Elmer's Glue and a little water to wet down the paper strips and I applied them to the platform. Then I added lots of coats of DuraClear varnish, sanding some of the layers.
There were a few spots where the paper just would not stick, so I peeled them off and filled in the blank spots with a silver metallic marker. I added some adhesive paper ribbon to give some visual weight to the bottom of the shoes, then Mod Podged and sealed eveything one more time.
