Cro-hook stashbuster wrap

Cro-hook is also known as cro-knit and double-ended crochet.  It just requires a special crochet hook, that has a hook at either end.  I have a collection of cro-hooks in different lengths, in both bamboo and aluminum.
My husband even made me one with a wooden dowel.  He stained it, the bad pug chewed on it a little, and it's still my favorite (after the chew marks got sanded away!)

The wrap I made and pictured here is about 88 inches wide (not counting the fringe) and just 9 inches wide.   I started with 180 stitches and worked straight for 6 inches.  Then I increased every 20 stitches, to add a little shape.   I just kept going until the wrap covered my elbows, bound off and added a simple chain stitch edging.   The shawl that I ended up with is soft, thick & reversible-perfect!

Also, I used leftover worsted weight yarns from the rag bag.   I love stashbuster projects, as it's very rewarding to use up all the odds and ends, and the color mash-up adds to the fun.

Cro-hook crochet is a variation of Tunisian Crochet, with yarn wrapped onto the hook in one pass and worked off in the second pass.  But you use opposite ends for each pass, which gives you the opportunity to play with color.  Working from alternate ends also creates a non-curling fabric that has a woven appearance.

I have short cro-hooks and some that are 18 inches wide.  But the length of the cro-hook really doesn't matter.  You can work a long length of  fabric with a short hook by doing a kind of relay.  Check out this U-Tube video to see how it is done.

To close the wrap, I made a shawl pin with 18 gauge wire and more yarn.  The center is an African trade bead.
