![]() It's easy to make crochet lace balls for the Christmas tree, or to add some charm to your house any time of year. I just use the first two or three rows of any doily pattern and add 1-3 rows of chain stitch netting. I finish off and start another, joining on the final chain stitch row to the other half. Then I dilute some Modge Podge with a little water and apply it to the crochet with my thumb and fingers. Insert a small round balloon, blow it up and let them dry on wax paper. You can get really fancy with the embellishments, but since I used white thread, I thought a simple ribbon threaded through the center row of chain stitches looked best. Finish with a bow and display them in a bowl or hang them from a tree, garland or window.
It's a very versatile project. The ribbons can easily by removed, or changed to different colors as the seasons change. And of course, you can use different color threads, or make them as big or as small as you want. You can see the different sizes that I ended up with, just by changing out double crochet for half-double, and by changing the number of stitches in the crochet chains.
